Ways to Save Money While Doing and Seeing Things

Our Fun Pass was began with the belief that you do not have to go far nor spend a lot of money to have fun.

Here is a list of my top ten favorite ways to save money while doing and seeing things in Colorado:

I was introduced to the multi-attraction discount pass over 20 years ago in Philadelphia.

The Denver CityPass offers up to a 45% savings off a combination of top attractions including Denver Museum of Art, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, History Colorado Center, Denver Zoo, and Denver Aquarium, and Wings Over Rockies Air & Space Museum.

There are free days at various attractions throughout the year, including Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus, Denver Art Museum, Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, and more!

Free days do sometimes require a little planning, such as Denver Zoo requires entering a lottery for free tickets ahead of time, but the savings are well worth the effort.

There are many places that are simply free every day including the Aurora History Museum, Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge, Morrison Nature Center, local parks, and local trails.

Many of these free every day locations are great for a bonus stop when you are already in the area or just have some extra time to explore someplace new.

Free events in Colorado are happening in festivals, art walks, local concerts, farmers markets, and more!

Community events are a way to meet people in the community, similar interests, and experience something a little different your “typical” day.

Gasp. I can’t find any pictures from local events. I’m going to work on changing that as soon as possible.

Libraries might not be on your radar as a way of saving money on anything other than books but they truly offer so much more.

There are often opportunities to borrow passes for State of Colorado Parks, Butterfly Pavilion, and Museum of Contemporary Arts.

Passes are typically reserved for a set day, location, and number of people.

Memberships offer admission all year long at a significantly reduced rate.

We had the Denver Museum of Nature & Science membership that allowed for two extra people to come with us.

The benefits of membership are not only the savings but also the ability to go whenever you want, which reduces the time and effort spent planning.

I do recommend bringing a snacks, picnic lunch or sack lunch when visiting attractions to avoid costly eating out and becoming hangry while exploring.

Souvenirs can be pricey. Collecting photos, postcards, magnets, pins, and other small items can be a helpful way to save money, as well as space.
