Durango is in southwestern Colorado.  The drive from Denver takes about 6.5 hours.  Don’t want to drive?  The Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) is a regional airport in Durango with flights to/from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Phoenix (PHX), and Las Vegas (LAS).

The Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a popular attraction with full and half day excursions.  They also offer special trains, including The Polar Express, photography train, and Romance on the Rails.
